COMMUNITY POLICING AND CRIME PREVENTION

Gini Graham Scott has been an active participant in the growing national trend for community policing and can speak about this topic. This trend promotes improved citizen-police relations and provides opportunities for citizens to support their local police through volunteering in various ways.  

She has been active in these ways:  

  • Researched and wrote a report on homicide in Oakland, published by the Oakland police, which gained press coverage in the San Francisco Examiner, Oakland Tribune, and on local TV and radio.

  • Conducted an ethnographic field study on the police clean-up of prostitution in Oakland.

  • Conducted an ethnographic field study on the role of the police canine and prostitution units in Oakland. 

  • A graduate of Oakland's Citizen Police Academy

  • Has been an officer and member of the Oakland Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA) 7 years.  Was a Vice President and Community/PR Liaison for 3 years.

  • Doing research with the police
